If I've lost 60 pounds, how can I still be so fat?

I'm having a mid-loss crisis. Okay, so crisis is a little strong in the semantics department. So, now that I've neared the half-way mark, I feel like I need some extra oomph. I know I said it didn't matter how long it took, but the 'end' is still a long time off. And yes, I know it's a lifestyle change, so by 'end' I mean maintenance. I look at a lot of your blogs and realize that you would be thrilled and close to the maintenance stage if you lost 60 pounds.

Any ideas to get past these feelings? As for my weigh-in, I have to report a slight gain of .4 of a pound. I've had several 1 pound+ losses in the past few weeks, so I knew I'd experience a small bounce at some point. According to my home scale, I've already lost that .4 plus a little more.

Have a great Labor Day weekend! We're off to the lake!

You are doing amazing! Everyone feels the way you are feeling at some point during their journey. Keep you chin up!! You are making TONS of progress!

About half way through my loss I definitely had feelings similar to yours!! I can empathize.

What got me through honestly was not actually thinking about it long term. What I mean by that is thinking about it one day at a time and avoiding as many mirrors as possible. Looking at them would just make me obsessive and depressed - regardless of all the great progress I was making.

Also about halfway I switched up my physical activity and went out to get new "stuff" - notebooks, pens, cookbooks, whatever... and wrote out all my goals, how much progress I'd made, pictures, whatever... doing that made me feel like I was at the beginning of my journey again. Rather than discouraging me it instilled a new sense of vigor.

The trick for me was doing all this in one sitting and then putting it away again. Otherwise it would have the same affect as the mirrors... obsessive.

Hope that all made sense. :) I'm keeping tabs onya woman!

i agree - its hard to stay on track during weight loss and afterwards w/maintenance (i hear that's even harder!)... for me, i just take it one day at a time - i push msyelf and try new things like doing the 5K this year and signing up for kick-boxing... keeping it fresh will help you stay motivated... i also think having a positive AND realistic attitude helps (accepting not every week will be a losing week)... you've come such a long way so keep on trucking! :o)

Silly girl - think of what you have done - not what lies ahead! I am so proud of you and what you have done! AWESOME!!

Hi Kim! Sounds like we are in the same place right now. :) I wish that I had some brilliant words of advice for you - but all I can say is that we HAVE to keep pushing ourselves forward. I know that it is going to be worth the effort when we finally reach our goals. :)

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!

Just found your blog - nice pictures, btw. No matter what weight you were at, always nicely dressed. I appreciate that. Unfortunately I can't tell you how to get over the mid-loss crisis, as I've only just started losing weight. Your kind of achievement seems sooo far off for me. Just remember how far you've come already!

I have lost 40 pounds and I still feel like this too. Its like why am I trying so hard and still look like crud! Anyway, we have to focus on the future and realize our bodies take time to change. I agree with you it is really hard!

Hey, girl! You are doing a great job so far! Just stick to whatever you are doing... and you WILL reach your goal! We all get discouraged and wonder about our progress at times... but keep your chin up and keep pressing on. Forget about your feelings... and look at the facts. You have lost 60 pounds! That is a fact... and one that you should be VERY proud of! I mean... just picture 60 pounds of lunch meat sitting on your kitchen counter. That is ALOT of meat! lol (I always do that with my own weight loss... it keeps me motivated. lol)

The other day I thought about how much weight I have to lose. I still have over 180 pounds to go. And then I realized that that is more than some of my blog buddies even WEIGH! That thought was a bit overwhelming... but I decided to not get depressed about it. My journey might take a little bit longer than some... but the destination is the same.

Let's do this. We can do it together! :)

As someone who wants to lose 140 pounds total and has never gotten past 40, I completely and totally understand!!!

The long road to the 'end' can seem so very long especially when you start thinking "man it's been this hard to lose 40 and I have to do that 2 1/2 more times" and stuff like that.

The only thing I can say I guess is, what's the alternative? We have to make it, right? because the only thing to go back to is a higher weight and we sure don't want that!

I know you can do it. You are doing all the right things. Just keep thinking about your goals and I know you will get there!

I lost about 150 lbs. and I am still obese, so get over it. Be happy you are only 60 pounds from your goal!!

I've felt like I've lost my motivation at different times during my weight loss journey. It does feel like a long road sometimes. I think the comments about finding new challenges and ways to motivate yourself are good ideas. Sometimes making your weight loss about achieving something else - running a race, joining a master's swim club that competes - you might find motivation there. I agree if you just keep focused on that number it can feel like a long time. Or, maybe you need to do more social exercising - I think you work out with a trainer, but do you ever take classes? Maybe joining a team would be fun. I definitely think that changing things up is the best way to get your motivation back and help you realize all you have accomplished and how much you are capable of!

I know how you feel. I have lost over 90 lbs. and I still have over 90 lbs. to go. Just like when I started, I couldn't dwell on how much I had to lose, so now I can't dwell on that. Perhaps a side benefit is that it wakes us up to the fact that we're in this for long haul. There is no end as you put it, but I think there is a difference between knowing it in our heads and actually coming to terms with it.

Hang in there. You can do it.

I, unfortunately, have no sage advice, but I just wanted to say that you are inspiring! 60 pounds is huge--60 pounds is you bounding towards health, tossing future diseases and pains to the left and right. 60 pounds is amazing.

Keeping positive can be tough when the road is long. But, think of how far along the healthy path you are. Forty pounds down; think of 60 pound boxes of butter sitting on your kitchen counter. That came off of your body! Hang in there. You will get past this discouraging time.
