Fat Camp

My mom is coming to visit soon. She'll arrive Tuesday next week and stay for two weeks. Some history about my mom ...
My mom was a ballet major in college. When she graduated, she weighed 88 pounds (for those of you who are slow with math, that's about 1/3 of me). The day she gave birth to me, her third child, she weighed 103 pounds. And then, she stopped smoking. And then, she got divorced. And ten years later, she got remarried. And now, I think she probably weighs about 180 pounds. That might be a little too much, but I'm probably within 10-15 pounds.
So, Mom is thrilled about what I've been doing to my body and has decided that her two week visit will also be known as "Fat Camp." She wants to do what I do and eat what I eat. I'm going to have her tag along to WW with me, and she's bringing her swimsuit so she can swim while I work out with my trainer and use weights and stuff like that.
I think it's kind of funny that Mom is viewing my house as Fat Camp. What do y'all think? Anything you think I can do to make Mom drop a couple pounds while she's visiting?
I've already told her we'll be working out 4-5 days a week, and she'll be adding a lot of soy, dairy, and fiber to her diet. Any other tips?

Wow, that sounds like good times. Its always so much better to be with someone. Someone to keep you accountable as well - looking forward to hearing how is goes. Good luck - I guess I am in "FAT CAMP" too - but my husband doesn't want to be a camper with me, so I am on my own. Take care and blog soon.

That is so positive for your Mum to be coming to enjoy some time with you. I think her story is similar to so many, including my own (I think I weigh about the same as your Mum, and I am very short).
I am not really in a position to give advice as I am fat myself, but I would definatly try and avoid any alcohol (I'm not sure if you drink ususally), keep up your water intake, and try to remove any processed foods from your diet. If it doesn't come from nature (fruit, vege, protein) try to avoid it like the plauge. Goodluck in your Mum/daughter Health fortnight!!
BTW... thanks for the lovely commment on my blog!

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment on my blog.

My advice is the same I say on my own blog, which is aim to be healthy - cut out processed foods etc - and your weight will naturally drop to a healthier level.

But in order to help you stick with making the healthier choices and tackle the binge demons, you need to look for the reasonS WHY you over ate in the first place - habits, self loathing, comfort (comfort from what though?) etc.

Wishing you all the best on your journey

Sounds like you have a great plan for her, and I'm sure she will thank you for it. Only suggestions I have is tell her to drink a TON of water, and cut the sodium, it's amazing how much water weight one can drop.

I think that is a hoot - and one of the best ideas I've ever heard. It will be great for your mom - and oh, so good for you - talk about a great motivator! I can't wait to read about your weeks together!

i think you should just show her that eating healthy and exercising, 5x a week, doesn't have to be hard... make it fun - try new recipes, try a new class at the gym, go for walks - spending time together while being healthy sounds like a lot of fun! :o)

I don't have any tips other than have lots of laughs together... might as well make "Fat Camp" fun right? What a great support to work together on taking care of yourselves.

Ooh, my suggestion is no processed sugar. I know WW allows stuff and you just use points for it, but I find getting off refined sugar for a while can make a huge difference to how I feel. Plus, this time of year is the perfect time to feast on snacks and desserts of ripe, juicy melon, strawberries, nectarines, etc. Also, grilled veggies if you have a BBQ -- eggplant, zucchini, portabella mushrooms, red/yellow/green bell peppers, pasilla/poblano peppers, etc. Just make sure to toss lightly with some olive oil or cooking spray and some seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc.) I say take advantage of the bounty of in-season produce to show your mom how yummy it can be to eat whole foods :)

Yay for Mom's and their positiveness (is that a word?)! It sounds to me like you've got a good plan for her visit, but my #1 suggestion is to show her things to do that are easy to incorporate into everyday life. Its something I wish had been done for me!
